Water is a key ingredient in all papermaking. Holmen Iggesund uses water to transport and wash fibres in our mills. Water is also used for other operations, such as cooling and steam production. The water used is surface water, that is to say, water taken from lakes and rivers.
The process water is cleaned from soil particles as it enters the mills. It is recirculated and recycled many times inside the factories. Finally the water is cleaned in several stages before it is released to the Baltic- and Irish seas.
The conditions in the environmental permits regarding type of wastewater treatment are based on the unique water conditions in the vicinity of each mill. Holmen Iggesund continuously monitors the status of recipient aquatic environments in close co-operation with local environmental authorities.

Paperboard is both a simple and advanced product. It is simple because we base our products on three main raw materials: water, wood and energy. But it is at the same time an advanced engineering feat to put these three ingredients together and come up with the fantastic products that Invercote and Incada are!
