Applications and benefits
The Incada family of Folding Box Board (FBB) products offers dependable packaging for a wide variety of designs and end-user applications including the packaging of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, chocolate and other food products. The high quality board is also commonly used for book covers and greeting cards. Incada’s fully coated printing surface is designed to meet the high demands of image reproduction in printing and in surface treatment methods such as foil and film applications.
Produced from fresh fibres, Incada ensures multiple product benefits including higher strength and better brightness. All raw materials used in the making of Incada are approved for food contact and assure the best properties for hygiene as well as odour and taste neutrality.
Sustainability advantages
Incada is manufactured at Holmen Iggesund’s Workington Mill in the UK. Its fresh fibres are of known and traceable origin and pulp production is integrated with the paperboard mill. The Workington Mill holds chain-of-custody certification, and the wood raw material comes from Holmen Iggesund’s own forests or other sustainably managed forests. Our facilities are largely self-sufficient in renewable thermal and electrical energy. Incada is both stiff and lightweight with higher yield than both Solid Bleached Board (SBB) and recycled products, which reduces fibre consumption and transportation weight.
Technical details
Specific fibre compositions are used for the various layers in the construction of Incada to optimise performance. The outer layers consist of bleached chemical sulphate pulp finished with machine glazing and the application of a double coating to provide the foundation for a smooth surface that meets the high demands of printing and foiling. The middle layers consist of mechanically separated fibres (TMP pulp), which provide high bulk and stiffness. The fibres in the different layers are treated differently to tailor the paperboard construction for its intended use.
Incada’s smooth surface and fast ink-setting properties support high productivity in both printing and foil applications. Creasing and embossing can also be performed efficiently and with good results. Incada can be glued with both emulsion adhesives (water-based) and hot melt adhesives. It can be printed using offset-litho, gravure, flexo, screen and digital printing processes.
